ELMS INTRODUCES ALL-IN-ONE CD LIBRARY AND CD-R SOLUTION

Disc Mastering And Duplication Capabilities Added To
First Affordable CD Library For PCs

IRVINE, Calif., January 15, 1997 -- On the heels of introducing a new class of affordable CD libraries for mainstream PC users, Elms Systems CorporationTM, innovators of digital library solutions, today announced the addition of CD-R support to enable unattended duplication of up to 100 CDs at a time.

Designed for business and professional organizations that distribute data and software in small batches via CD, the new models of the Elms DVLTM (Digital Versatile LibraryTM) and Panorama+TM software combine to bring CD mastering capabilities to the PC community for $6,995 (MSRP).

DVL libraries store up to 100 CDs on-line and may be configured with one to four drives. A single-drive DVL can be dedicated to mastering, or a multiple drive DVL can be used for both mastering and database storage and retrieval. DVL libraries may be upgraded in the field at any time.

Elms' Panorama+ software retains all the library management capabilities as originally introduced, while providing tools for duplicating single or batch jobs. The first PC software specifically designed for CD library management, PanoramaTMs basic management functions range from tracking the location of up to 5,000 CDs to on-line file browsing with drag-and-drop retrieval.
The added mastering features of Panorama+ include the automated mastering to and from a file image, automatic media selection through its "look for blanks here" feature, batch jobs and verify after write.

Screen displays guide the user in building a session. Files selection is accomplished by dragging files into a virtual image window. The software supports Mode 1 and Mode 2 XA formats. Panorama+ can also write disc and track at once, audio CDs and mixed mode CDs. Mastering to and from an ISO image file is also supported. The speed test feature examines the user's system to set the optimal recording speed for the system.
The user can define a job to create a specific type of CD and each job can specify the number of copies to be created from one to 100. Jobs can then be combined into batches allowing the unattended production of up to 100 CDs. Up to 100 jobs can be included in each batch. Batch job results are logged to a file for later viewing.

"With a fully-loaded DVL, the duplicate process can consist of up to 100 different jobs or one job duplicated 100 times," said Robert Smith, vice president marketing. He noted the economic advantages against even bargain-rate service bureau charges of $50 for the first disc and $20 for each additional copy. "Perhaps more important is the control and flexibility of doing it yourself," Smith said. "For only $6,995 users now have an affordable option of creating CDs when they need them." Software and game developers who build daily or on a regular basis will really appreciate Panorama+ as an easy way to create their test copies.

Smith points out that the DVL is not a high-volume production system, but is designed for such users as software and game developers, consultants, advertising agencies, and virtually any content developer who uses CD-ROM and needs to make small runs of CDs for customers, distributors or testers. With the DVL, the process becomes easy whether distributing beta and test copies, shipping deliverables on CD-ROM, issuing samples for testing, or storing and delivering client artwork on CD.

DVLs supporting CD-R start at $6,995 (MSRP) for a one CD-R drive DVL with Panorama+ software, five magazines and a SCSI interface kit. The company's high end DVL which includes one 4X CD-R drive, three 4X CD-ROM drives, a 4GB hard disk drive, five magazines, SCSI-II interface kit and Panorama+ software is $10,295 (MSRP). Elms has already pioneered a new price/performance class of CD library with its 100-disc capacity DVL and management software for a base price of $5,495 (MSRP). Smith added, "This is our second 'breakthrough' priced product setting a new value for the user looking for a CD mastering solution."

The upgrade price for the addition of a CD-R drive and Panorama+ software to owners of existing DVLs is listed at $1,995 (MSRP). Panorama+ and the CD-R versions of the DVL will be on distributor's shelves at the end of this month.
